Bath Racing

{racingfixtures|bath}
First to realise the potential of Bath in Somerset as a spa destination was of course the Romans and many Roman structures in the city remain to this day. Renowned for its incredible architecture it is then the Georgian period in history which has left its legacy on what is regarded as one of the most beautiful cities. Situated with terrific views over the city from Landsdown Hill is Bath Racecourse, one of the lesser known delights of the city but no less attractive for that.

Bath Racing, inside rail The lush green downland which forms the surface for Bath racing is perfectly suited to the flat races which are hosted at the course. The quality of the track is perhaps surprising given it is the highest flat racing course in the country, at 780 feet above sea level, and that it is unique in having no watering system. This is the delight of Bath racing; where everything seems to come together naturally to provide for some wonderful horseracing.

The track itself is oval in shape with long straights, perfect for those long-striding gallopers which so dominate flat racing fixtures. Tight bends and a long uphill home straight ensure close finishes too for many races, often with a dramatic and thrilling chase to the line. Highlights of the Bath racing calendar include the Dick Hern and Landsdown Fillies’ Stakes but all races are well attended by residents of Bath and visitors alike.

What makes Bath such a popular racecourse is undoubtedly down to its friendly and relaxed ambience, enhanced by being in a beautiful location in a city which attracts a great many visitors each year. It is easy to incorporate some Bath racing into a holiday in the city and it makes for a great day out with friends, as part of a corporate group, or as a family fun day out. Those who have never been to a racecourse before are made welcome and all the hospitality options are in place to make any time spent at Bath races as enjoyable as possible.

For new racegoers perhaps the best way to enjoy racing at Bath is to opt for an all inclusive option for the day which will incorporate all the components required to enjoy all the aspects of horseracing, from admission to drinks, dining and betting. The Fancy a Flutter Package is one such option and for just £23 per person, includes admission into the Grandstand and Paddock, a welcome drink, raceday programme, burger meal, and £2 Tote betting voucher.

An alternative option is the Classic Raceday Package, for £29 per person, which features premier admission, a£5 Tote betting voucher and an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the racecourse. For those who simply want to turn up and enjoy the facilities on offer as they require there is three types of basic admission to Bath racing, which are entry into the Premier Enclosure, the Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure, or the Centre Course Picnic Enclosure.

The Premier Enclosure offers the best racing views from the Premier Grandstand and superior facilities for dining in style. Prior booking is highly recommended to dine within the Premier Bar and Restaurant. Premier badge holders may access all public areas of the course. The Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure is the next option and ticket holders can access all the features within this enclosure such as bars, dining outlets and betting facilities. The Parade Ring and Winners Enclosure can also be accessed for all the pre- and post race action.

Bath Racing, photo finish The Centre Course Picnic Enclosure is a great option for a value for money family fun day out. Close up views of the races from the centre of the course are complemented by a snack bar, betting facilities, car parking and plenty of picnic space. Children under 16 enjoy free admission to all enclosures at Bath Racecourse when accompanied by an adult with the appropriate ticket and so organising and indulging in a family day out at the races represents an excellent way for a family to spend some quality leisure time together without breaking the bank.

Additional concessions and discounts are available. Groups of 15 persons or more can enjoy a 20% reduction in entrance prices when the tickets are booked in advance and OAPs and students get a £5 reduction in entry to the Premier and Grandstand and Paddock Enclosures when buying tickets on the day.

Hospitality packages are available for the two on-course restaurants, which incorporate some excellent three course dining and large television screens on which to catch up on all the race action.

Racing can be very much a social experience at Bath and there are many themed race nights and events. Ladies Night in particular provides a very popular opportunity to dress in ones best and enjoy horseracing in the style with which it has been associated throughout history. Summer and Christmas parties can also be hosted at the course and all manner of other celebrations and private events.

The course is a premier conference venue and has a wealth of first class meeting spaces equipped with all the modern technologies to host business meetings, seminars and conferences. Meetings for between 4 and 400 persons can be organised with all catering and equipment supplied. Day and 24 hour delegate packages are available. Similarly Bath Racecourse provides the perfect backdrop to stylish wedding celebrations and a team of event co-ordinators are on hand to ensure a successful and memorable event.
